About Me
Hi! My name is Serhii Koval'ko, and I’m an aspiring photographer. You can see examples
of my work on the main page, but for now, let me tell you a bit about myself. I’m originally from Ukraine,
but I currently live in Mikkeli, Finland. I enjoy sports, walking in nature, reading, studying the Finnish
language, and—as you’ve probably already noticed—photography.
In photography, it’s important for me to capture a person as they truly are—alive and genuine. I want to
convey their feelings, emotions, and passions. That’s why I try to move away from classic posed instructions
like “stand here, look there, smile.” Not everyone enjoys being photographed—there’s often a sense of awkwardness
in the first few minutes in front of the camera. But I’ll do my best to ease that feeling. How exactly? That’s my job.
Many people ask: “Why do we even need photography?”
- Photography is a way to pause a moment in time. We all change. Our loved ones change. Life moves on. But a photograph is a way to return to what mattered — even years later.
- A good photograph is like a mirror. It shows who you truly were — in the right moment, in the right light, with nothing unnecessary.
- Photography can change the way you see yourself. When a person sees themselves in a good photo, it can boost their self-esteem and help them learn to love who they are.
- Photographs can become family heirlooms. They are important not only for us, but also for our children and grandchildren — as a part of our family's history.
